Database Introduction
ScienceDirect, the full-text database platform of Elsevier, is the world largest STM (Science, Technology, Medicine) full-text electronic resource database. It offers more than 2,650 peer-reviewed journals, containing more than 19 million articles. These articles are researched by authoritative authors, managed by renowned editors, and are read and favored by researchers from all over the world.
In 2026, the Library subscribes to the ScienceDirect Freedom Collection, covering 23 subject areas and providing access to approximately 2,270 journals.
The Library has also launched a trial of LeapSpace. LeapSpace is Elsevier’s new research-grade AI workspace. Drawing on peer-reviewed scholarly literature and research data, it supports AI-assisted literature searching, question answering, and research analysis.
Access
Since October 2025, ScienceDirect has been accessible through the University’s single sign-on authentication system, and VPN access is no longer required. For instructions on accessing ScienceDirect through CARSI, please refer to the

To use LeapSpace, users need to create an Elsevier account and sign in. You can access LeapSpace through the LeapSpace link at the top of the ScienceDirect homepage or visit the LeapSpace website directly.
